Pascal Bouterin

Pascal Bouterin (b. 1977) is a young French artist who is also an accomplished jazz musician.  He paints primarily in oils, applied with a palette knife, and in pastels, with pen, ink, and pencil.  His canvases often invoke a musical quality with people resembling notes on a page.  His landscapes are reminiscent of Turner, with their dreamy ethereal quality and subtle but powerful use of color.

Bouterin is an artist to watch and we've enjoyed keeping our eyes on his creative and inspired journey.  Having represented him for almost twenty years, we are honored to have accompanied him on his journey of art and music, the culmination of which has been his wonderful solo art shows at Huff Harrington Fine Art, performing as an artist and musician with his band of musicians from France. 

Bouterin's paintings address old world themes in a contemporary style.  His abstract interpretations of varied landscapes invite us into an assortment of cosmopolitan or pastoral environments.  The delicate composition of his works transports us to a sentimental, often romantic, place.  His work grabs us because it is elegant, unique and refined.  His oils are luscious and deep.  His use of mixed media is often spontaneous and light, with precise little strokes.  And overall, there is always a mysterious quality to his subjects and paintings that is hauntingly beautiful.

This gentle artist is tall, modest and shy and paints to the sounds of his other passion, jazz music. Bouterin grew up in his grandfather’s house near St. Remy de Provence and his paintings are usually infused with the light and beauty of the surroundings that influenced him early on.  He has an optimistic view of life, and people often comment on the calming and soothing effect of his paintings.   We are delighted that he has made Atlanta his U.S. home, and we welcome him back any time he can visit us – which luckily for us, is fairly frequently due to his having a very loyal clientele in Atlanta.
