Elizabeth Stockton
I'm an Atlanta native specializing in contemporary oil paintings. I grew up in a family in which art was highly valued. My art education and practice were encouraged from a very early age. My father, Jack Niles, was a fiercely independent artist who demonstrated the need for simultaneous creativity and discipline. I studied Fine Art and Design at the University of Georgia. Today, I continue my education as an artist through persistent painting, exploration, artists’ residencies, and study of past and present artists.
My work is influenced by a variety of interests including: the power of color, the beauty of nature, and the simplicity of minimalism. My paintings are a personal expression of the human condition. Each intended to evoke a myriad of emotions from quiet to explosive, and a mysteriousness that keeps the viewer fascinated and involved.
The study of other artists' paintings also informs my work. Some favorites are, Jenny Holzer, Joan Mitchell, Robert Motherwell, Ed Ruscha, Kara Walker and Xiaoze Xie, just to name a few.
