Ann Rudd
"I paint moods, usually quietness, introspection, and contentment. "
I've been creating artwork for many years, grew up in Raleigh, NC, "almost" majored in art, and opted to study psychology. I have a bachelor's degree from East Carolina University, a master's in Applied Psychology from Virginia Tech, and have enjoyed providing psychological assessments and services for people with developmental disabilities for several decades. Also pursued a bit of training in graphic design at the Art Institute of Charlotte along the way, but decided to keep my creative focus on being an "indie artist."
My painting style has been described as "original," "peaceful" and "like Debussy, painting not with cymbals and bass, but with oboes and flutes." I aim to create expressive drawings and paintings, have happily received awards in a variety of local and regional juried exhibitions around Charlotte, had two paintings juried into a national show in 2015, won a Merit Award in the national Art Muse contest in 2018, and received an Emerging Artist Finalist award in the national Art Muse contest in March of 2019.
I love to explore processes for creating strong images, using neutral color palettes and soft edges.
I live near Charlotte with my husband and our calico cat. We are maintaining an empty nest since our son grew up. Well, it's not really empty.
The days are busy and sometimes it's difficult to find time to paint. DPW provides a great outlet and motivation for completing daily paintings.
