Maura Segal
We were instantly drawn to Maura’s calming compositions of brush-applied lines and shapes - but a sharper look reveals that the lines are actually hand-cut, thin strips of paper that she adheres to the canvas before the painting even begins. We love how Maura’s work is a paradox of simplicity and complexness - and reflects her passion for modern architecture and minimalism.
"On the surface, my canvases seem as though they consist of only line and shape applied with a paint brush, when in fact as you step forward the lines are placed on by hand: using hand-cut, thinly strips of paper. I also adhere different hand-cut shapes of paper before the painting even commences to create texture and depth to my work.
I’m influenced by a love of modern architecture and minimalism; both of which inform my work constructively and aesthetically."
